Buried

just write the truth
write what you know
sounds easy

but truth lurks deep
below fathoms of a fast life
seagull-white crests hint at its existence

feet stay away from the jagged reefs
my body skims over the tides of self-doubt
promising to submerge me where only I can hear myself

sirens tease me with whispers
barely audible over the roar of life
who are you, what do you want, are you happy?

life is too short to stop long enough to answer
don’t want to miss out while at rest
even if what’s missing is me
